Fonda Mexican - CBD

I caught up with some high school friends at Fonda Mexican a while ago. We put our names down at 7:30 and was told that the wait time was 45 mins. It was super dooper busy and we ended up waiting for 1 hour and 15 mins for a table. We had 2 sets of the 'Feed Me' menu which consisted of Tortilla Crisps, 2 Corn, 2 Fish Tacos and Mexico City Pork Quesadilla ($49 for 2 people) and T ordered whatever she wanted. I thought it was pretty cool that they didn't make us do the Feed Me for the entire table like most restaurants.

DRANKS: HORCHATA, PINEAPPLE & MINT AND WATERMELON & STRAWBERRY

To start we had some dranks. T had alcohol spiked Horchata which was rice water, cinnamon, vanilla and evaporated milk. K had pineapple and mint with a hit of ginger. I got watermelon, strawberry and basil. They were only 6 bucks. NOMYOM.

TORTILLA CRISPS
For starters we got the Tortilla Crisps which had white and blue corn tortilla crisps with guacamole and pico de gallo. They were pretty standard and I guess a little more flavour in the guac would've been nice, it's justttttttt avocado.

CHARRED CORN
The charred corn was coated in chipotle aioli, queso blend, fresh lime and paprika. Yummy stuff. D thinks she can make better ones at home, yeah I'd like to see her try.

MARKET FISH (FRESH ROCKLING)
Tacos included fresh rockling, shaved cabbage, pickled carrot and onion, guacamole, chipotle aioli and fresh lime. They were decent but needed more sauce just to tie everything together.

MEXICO CITY PORK
Lastly, we were finished with the pork quesadillas which also had baby spinach and queso blend in it. It had pico de gallo, avocado salsa and pickled onion on the side. They were pretty filling and had good flavour. I would've loved more onion as they were punchyyyy.

GRILLED CHICKEN SALAD
T got her own meal of the Grilled Chicken Salad ($16). It was chock full of rocket, shaved cabbage, quinoa, black beans, sweet potato, smoked corn, sliced radish, coriander, pepita seeds and a lemon vinaigrette. It was very refreshing.

Overall, it was a decent meal.  The vibes were pretty cool and since it was a really busy Friday night, it was pretty noisy. The Feed Me menu had a good selection for the price. If I feel like Mexican food (which I almost always do) I'd probably hit up other joints, only because good old Melbourne has so much to offer.
